The Environmental Success Story of Costa Rica
The world is made up of many countries, and these countries each have their
own individual characters and resources. What is beneficial in one country,
therefore, may not necessarily be as successful in neigboring countries, but
this is no reason for people and parties not to look at developing new and
alternative solutions to problems which have been around for a long
time.
When talking about countries which lead the world, it is generally accepted
that we mean countries which wield a great degree of power globally, countries
with large landmasses or populations, and those who are cash- or resource-rich.
Generally, people think of the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany,
Italy or Russia – or indeed the likes of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Japan and China.
However, one country which is showing a possible way forward is Costa
Rica.
Anyone looking at Costa Rica would be forced to admit that it is a quite
beautiful country. Literally translated its Spanish name means “coast of the
rich” – and the situation for its residents fits that nickname. The financial
situation of the country and its inhabitants is as positive as anywhere in the
world. A recent survey also showed that it was the “happiest country in the
world”. Furthermore, it is one of the world’s greenest countries – both in terms
of landscape and in terms of environmental matters.
Costa Rica is moving closer and closer to having a universally viable solar energy scheme. In doing this it may well offer a template for other countries who want a green future and a happy population.
