What Can YOU Do?

The importance of being environmentally secure in the present day is growing ever more clear to people, as we find that things we used to take for granted are, in actual fact, not to be relied upon anywhere near as much as we might have hoped. Our world is at a crossroads. We are learning that there is now less of a supply of fossil fuels than we once thought, and that without a great deal of searching we may find our access cut off sooner rather than later.

In order that we can move towards the future with a modicum of environmental security, it is now clear that we have to consider any alternatives which arise. Governments are looking themselves for ways to develop the greener future which they need to create, but anyone who follows politics will know that, at governmental level, the rate of progress is dictated by the slowest moving. Relying on anything happening quickly requires us to take some action ourselves.

The crunch here is that at the moment, solar and wind power are expensive as compared to fossil fuels. Even with the best of intentions there are many people who find that they cannot cover the costs of alternative energy sources in their homes and cars. For this reason governments are beginning to offer funding for people developing their homes if they will put it towards wind turbines or solar panels to power the home’s energy supply. It is not perfect – this funding is often limited or slow to arrive – but it does provide an alternative for those who are prepared to take it.
